Computer Technologies in New Refrigerator Reviews

In todays’ marketplace, technology is everywhere.  Even refrigerator reviews have to cover the pros and cons of the latest technological advances in fridge freezers.  Refrigerators are not just for cooling any more, they can do a whole lot more.

Samsung RF4289

Internet Enabled Samsung

Some of the latest fridges to hit the market are starting to come with built in internet access.  While not for everyone, they have a lot to offer for early adopters.  Some of the newest Samsung models – including the RSG309 and the RF4289 – actually include an 8-inch LCD screen in the door, and support Wi-Fi connectivity to your homes network.

Samsung tells us that these refrigerators will have access to the major social networking networks such as Facebook.  They also come with something called the Weather Bug, which gives you up to date weather information right there on your fridge door.

Perhaps more practically, these units can be used to access recipe information.  This might be handy if you computerize your recipes, but do not wish your iPad2 to be coated in flour when you sit it on your countertop.

Also touted is the ability to use the fridge screen for virtual post-it notes, and for keeping track of the families calendar of activities, i.e. Jill has soccer practice tonight…

While many people will not find the benefits of refrigerator network connectivity worth paying extra for, over time the price premium will no doubt decrease.  When this occurs, these types of functionality will no doubt become commonplace in American kitchens.

We are all used to refrigerator reviews discussing which models or brands are which, and analyzing the merits of individual units’ icemakers and/or shelving solutions.  This computer technology related information in discussions of what is the best refrigerator is no doubt going to take a little getting used to.  Nevertheless, it is here to stay!
